TAX SALE QUESTIONS & ANSWERS Please
be aware that when you purchase at the tax sale, you are purchasing taxes, not
property. Purchasing taxes is a complex procedure and it is advised that you contact
an attorney, and/or review the Illinois Compiled Statutes prior to participating
in a tax sale.
When will your next tax sale be held? The
delinquent tax sale is usually held the last Monday in January.
Where
is it held and what time does it begin?
At the City of Carmi Council Room at 9:00 a.m.
When
and where do you advertise for the sale?
We advertise in the local newspapers.
Carmi Times.
Can you send me a list of the parcels
that will be available?
Lists are available for a $25.00 prepaid fee if you pick it up, and $30 if we mail it.
You may send your payment at anytime. We will then send you a list when they become
available, generally 3-4 weeks before the tax sale.
Do I need to register
for the tax sale? No, you do not need to register ahead of time. The County
Clerk will have Registration papers for you to sign the day of the sale.
What
form of payment do you accept? Personal, business or cashier's checks
accepted. Taxes must be paid immediately after the close of the tax sale.
What
happens to the parcels that are not sold at the auction?
They are sold to the County Trustee Program
Will the tax sale be final? Yes
Can
I bid without attending (via mail)? No, you or your representative must
be physically present at the sale to bid. You cannot bid via mail. The sale is
conducted in an open format.
Is a copy of the state statutes regarding
the tax sale available for purchase? The Illinois Compiled Statutes are
available at your local library.
